Dr. Tom Collins was born in Panama, Central America and is the eldest of five children.  

He earned his Ph.D. degree in continuing education.

He has served as director of the University of Nebraska College of Medicine's Summer School for Alcohol Studies. Tom is a founding member of the Board of Directors for Teen Challenge of Oklahoma, a residential treatment center for young men. He serves as a volunteer assistant to the Summer Institute for Medical Students (SIMS) at the Betty Ford Center, Rancho Mirage CA. And Tom is a group facilitator for the Aftercare program at the ABC Recovery Center, Indio CA.

He is the father of three sons and has one granddaughter.
