For many years, Alcoholism/Addiction was thought of as a weak person’s inability to control his/her desires. People afflicted with a drinking/drug problem were looked upon as outcasts, less than acceptable citizens with irresponsible behavior. And it was always thought by social drinkers that it was a matter of choice.

As time went by, professionals in the field of Recovery Addiction came to believe that addiction might be a brain disease. Research began to reveal that a chromosome (part of a cell that contains the genes) in a few people's brain, but not everyone’s, could be the culprit that leads to addiction.

Dr. Harry, along with a great many others has long held that alcoholism is a brain-chemistry disease and explores this theory in his presentation of “The Disease of Addiction/Disease Imbalance.”
